Plot: Godzilla and the almighty Kong face a colossal threat hidden deep within the planet, challenging their very existence and the survival of the human race.
The movie was excellent. The movie is well worth seeing if you were looking for monster vs. monster action. It was reasonable that the character development was uninteresting. Not required. The daughter of the company’s CEO, who aside from being attractive and having a few lines, didn’t really add much to the story, was one of many characters that weren’t necessary because they didn’t really add anything. I’m looking at you, genius level high school kids trying to figure out the reason behind Godzilla’s rage and who are also somehow Agent 47-level sneaky. However, the way she left the chat/comments section, she most certainly deserves a F (for showing respect).
When compared to what I mentioned above, the introduction of a second “realm” called “Hollow Earth,” the “actual” home of these titans, was arguably the most ridiculous part of the film. Apparently also the source of Godzilla’s power. Kong also gained his power there. It appeared as though intelligent species that would make humans blush once called this realm home. In essence, it was quite magical, and that would undoubtedly cause some people to take notice.
Overall, the battle scenes were excellent and met, if not exceeded, my expectations. While the final fight was pretty amazing, it did follow the formula of previous Godzilla films, with the return of Godzilla’s nemesis. However, the fight that follows is what truly makes me cry. As they say, “Today’s friend is yesterday’s enemy.” The fact that the two kings set aside their differences to take on the biggest threat at the time, regardless of how ridiculous the fight was, was reason enough for a standing ovation.
